Why do we encourage a 'fake smile' society?

So that we don't unleashed any negative mood upon others. Imagine seeing someone just broken up with another person walking past you with their head down. They may be mad, they may be sad. You see some people who see this get critical and start to stare or question and that can lead to negative judgment. Also society wants to feel safe.
