How do i make myself get over a guy?

I have a friend that ive known for 6 ys that I really like ALOT. Were the same religions and we have alo of the same morals. and i told him once b4 about 9 months ago that i liked him but all he said was u nevr know what the future holds. I mentioned it to him again about a week ago, and he told me that he hs grown to see me as a friend. But its so hard to get over him and we dont live in the same city. How can i not think about him so much?
